The Texas Biennial features recent work by artists living and working in Texas.

The 2011 edition of the exhibition includes works by 48 artists/artist duos selected from an open call. These artists are listed below. (Texas Biennial alums are indicated by the year following their names.)

For a gallery guide to their works in the exhibition, at venues in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, click here.

The exhibition also includes 5 designated site-specific or 'located' works by internationally recognized invited artists Margarita Cabrera, Mary Ellen Carroll, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Annette Lawrence and James Magee. Read about this aspect of the project here.

By special invitation, during the weekend of opening events in Austin, April 15-16, artist Christie Blizard installed work from The Give-Away Project at multiple locations around the city.

Special Invitation Artist

Christie Blizard
The Give-Away Project, 2011
Performed in Austin, TX, April 15-16, 2011

In this ongoing project, Blizard creates small drawings and posts them in public places, accompanying them with hand-lettered signs indicating that the drawings are free and intended to be taken. Blizard considers the work complete when her act of giving is accepted -- when someone takes a drawing. The artist documents each site as a record of the work. Many of the drawings are made of multiple pieces of paper painted with watercolor and stitched together with thread. To date, Blizard has distributed drawings from The Give-Away Project in Dallas, Lubbock, Reykjavik, and, as her contribution to the 2011 Biennial, in Austin.
